Workshop Manager – Commercial Vehicle Workshop (Cheltenham Area)

Salary: £55,000 + performance accountability

Takeaway: You’ll run a high-output commercial workshop where your decisions directly impact fleet reliability, operational performance and business continuity.

The Role

This workshop is the engine room of the operation. With a fleet of around 100 commercial vehicles plus specialist jetting, tanker and survey units, the pressure is real – and the impact is huge. As the Workshop Manager, you take full ownership of day-to-day workshop performance, standards, safety and results.

You’re the person who keeps the wheels turning – literally.

What You’ll Lead

  • Fleet Control – Stay ahead of defects, downtime and daily operational demands.

  • Work Allocation – Prioritise jobs, direct the foreman and keep technicians productive and focused.

  • Supplier Negotiation – Secure the right parts at the right price.

  • Compliance Management – Own regulatory standards, audits, induction processes and workshop safety culture.

  • Process Improvement – Build, refine and enforce systems that keep the workshop running at a high standard.

  • Team Development – Coach technicians, support apprentices and drive a “one team” mentality.

  • Performance Reporting – Deliver clear reports to senior leadership and hit strict KPIs.

  • Operational Oversight – Ensure all vehicles – internal fleet and external client units – are maintained, serviced and ready for work.

What You Bring

  • Experience managing technicians with mixed skill levels.

  • Ability to juggle changing priorities without dropping standards.

  • A track record of spotting inefficiencies and fixing them.

  • Strong communication skills and confidence producing clear reports.

  • Sharp problem-solving ability and a mindset for continuous improvement.

  • High personal integrity – someone trusted to run the workshop independently.

  • Excellent attention to detail and a focus on end results.

  • Solid IT skills (Microsoft Office essential).

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Previous experience in a commercial workshop environment – ideally transport or heavy vehicle operations.
