Solicitor – Police Employment

Overview

In this role you will support police employment matters within a national Employment, Pensions and Immigration team. You will manage a mixed caseload, provide advisory work and run Employment Tribunal matters, including advocacy where applicable. The position offers hybrid working across Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester or Nottingham, with career development and possibilities to help grow the practice. You will collaborate with partners, contribute to business development, and uphold client service standards. Responsibilities

• Provide employment law advice to Police force clients (unfair dismissal, disciplinaries, grievances, whistleblowing, discrimination, detriment, equal pay) with focus on running Employment Tribunal cases
• Attend preliminary or interim hearings and perform advocacy where applicable
• Draft documents, tribunal responses, bundles, witness statements and reports
• Supervise and manage team members’ caseloads as appropriate
• Draft articles and legal updates
• Support business development through training and networking
• Work with client and internal SLAs
• Adhere to Weightmans’ values and procedures
• Achieve set financial and chargeable targets

Key requirements

• 4+ years PQE or relevant experience
• Experience running own employment tribunal files
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Strong technical knowledge
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Flexible approach
• Mentoring or supervising junior fee-earners (preferred)
