Role Overview
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a business on the appointment of an Assistant Accountant to support financial reporting, maintain accurate accounting records and assist with month-end processes.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will support the preparation of management accounts, complete reconciliations and provide financial information for budgeting and business decisions.
This Assistant Accountant position offers exposure to financial accounting, accounts payable and receivable, audit support and finance process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with monthly management accounts and month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Maintain general ledger records, post journals and complete bank, supplier and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Process supplier invoices and employee expenses, supporting accurate and timely payments.
- Monitor customer accounts, assist with credit control and resolve invoice, payment and account discrepancies.
- Prepare financial reports and variance analyses to support management decision-making.
- Support budgeting and forecasting, monitoring departmental expenditure against agreed budgets.
- Prepare documentation and supporting schedules for internal and external audits.
- Assist with VAT, payroll and other statutory reporting processes where applicable.
- Maintain accurate financial records and follow internal controls, company procedures and applicable accounting standards.
- Support finance system maintenance, process improvements and finance-related projects.
What you will need to succeed as Assistant Accountant:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- Currently sitting exams or in a formal training contract (CAI, CIMA, ACCA)
- Practical experience completing reconciliations, posting journals and preparing financial reports.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (MS Business Central is advantageous)
