Lead AI Engineer – Enterprise AI Products

Overview

As Lead AI Engineer at Citi’s Enterprise AI Products team, you combine hands-on engineering with architectural leadership to deliver AI platforms that solve real business problems. You will partner with senior stakeholders to translate needs into scalable, production-grade solutions and help shape the platform strategy and roadmap. The role offers exposure to Generative AI, AI Agents, and modern AI engineering in a fast-moving environment. You will influence technical direction while delivering impact through cross-functional collaboration and robust development practices.

Responsibilities

• Own and lead technical components end-to-end aligned with business and product objectives
• Collaborate with senior business and technology stakeholders to translate problems into technical solutions
• Shape roadmaps, technical strategy, and priorities with the team lead and stakeholders
• Design, develop and implement scalable, production-quality solutions using sound engineering and architectural principles
• Build AI solutions including Generative AI and Agentic AI using Google ADK
• Design, develop and test AI Agents and work with Model Context Protocol (MCP) and MCP servers
• Write high-quality code in Python and/or Java across modern AI and platform technologies
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and team development
• Drive engineering quality through code reviews, design reviews, testing and CI/CD practices
• Ensure solutions meet Citi’s risk, security and compliance requirements while integrating with wider platforms

Key requirements

• Senior Developer, Technical Lead, Lead Engineer or similar senior role
• Strong object-oriented programming, software architecture and technical design
• Hands-on Python and/or Java development (both desirable)
• Experience with Generative AI and AI Agents; Google ADK preferred
• Practical experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP)
• Strong REST APIs, networking, databases, and CLI tooling; Postgres/Oracle experience preferred
• CI/CD and modern DevOps tooling (Jenkins, uDeploy, Tekton, Harness or equivalent)
• Ability to shape technical strategy and roadmaps; engage with senior stakeholders
• Comfort working with non-technical stakeholders to translate business needs
• Strong problem-solving, communication and presentation skills
• Experience providing technical leadership, mentoring or line management
• Desirable: Neo4j or graph DBs, UX/front-end, broader AI platform tech
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline
