Overview

In this role you provide technical leadership and management for database administration within a matrix environment. You will drive advanced database design, analysis, and performance optimization to meet complex processing needs and future requirements. You’ll act as a senior advisor on database strategy and ensure reliable, high-performance production databases. This is a hands-on leadership position that shapes how we manage data at scale to accelerate research and development in healthcare.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and management direction to database administration teams
• Manage resource allocations within a matrix-managed environment
• Plan and oversee state-of-the-art database designs to solve complex processing problems
• Perform advanced database analysis and design tasks using modern techniques
• Ensure databases meet operational standards for reliability, performance, and query response
• Prepare cost analyses and justification for complex database systems
• Serve as a senior consultant on database analysis and design reviews
• Participate in administration, monitoring, tuning, and production support of databases

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent experience
• 12+ years of information technology experience
• 8+ years of experience in database administration
• Experience applying database design approaches that consider current and future needs
• Experience evaluating database implementation, backup, and recovery strategies
• Knowledge of denormalization, data archival schemes, sizing, DDL and database objects
• Knowledge of referential integrity, security enforcement and application optimization
• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be accepted
