Senior Electrical Engineer – HV Substation Design (UK & Ireland)

Overview

In this role you will lead HV substation design and related services across a varied portfolio, contributing to grid-scale infrastructure and energy transition programs. You will collaborate within the Transmission and Distribution team to deliver projects from concept to energisation, engaging with utility clients and major operators. You will shape technical solutions for renewables and grid assets, while embracing innovation and digital tools. Responsibilities

• Produce primary plant layouts for HV substations
• Specify HV plant and related equipment
• Provide engineering design input to major infrastructure projects
• Fulfill an Owners’ Engineer role on HV substation, cable, and OHL projects
• Contribute HV design input to renewable energy projects (battery storage, solar, hydro, wind)
• Deliver professional services to clients in Ireland/UK and overseas

Key requirements

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Experience on HV projects
• Experience with major utilities or developers
• Experience as a designer or project engineer
• Experience developing specifications for substation control systems, transformers, GIS, and AIS switchgear
• Ability to work across multiple projects
• Fluency in English
• Experience in technical report writing
• Full driving license and access to a personal vehicle
• Ideally multi-discipline project experience
• Ideally Chartered accreditation or pursuing it
• Ideally consultancy experience
• Ideally experience reviewing detailed designs and witnessing construction activities
