Here at ST George’s Hospital, we offer cardiac screening for patients affected by, or at risk of, inherited cardiac conditions (ICC). The ICC team provides dedicated SADS clinics, supporting families and individuals affected by sudden arrhythmic death syndrome. The team also has a unique specialty of sports cardiology, providing advice and care to athletes with underlying cardiac conditions, allowing for unique opportunities to learn about the cardiac care of an athlete. This is an exciting time for service development with our team, with ongoing plans to advance our care and the role of the specialist nurse within our service.

Main duties of the job
The Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) team at St George’s Hospital offers specialist care for the diagnosis, symptom evaluation and management of patients and families affected by inherited cardiovascular conditions.
We are a multidisciplinary team working across South-West London, receiving supra-regional referrals from Surrey and across the UK. We work in close partnership with the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), with a particular focus on supporting families affected by unexplained sudden death, including Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS).
The service provides dedicated clinics using a family-centred approach, offering an integrated “one-stop” assessment where possible. Our clinics include cardiomyopathies, inherited arrhythmias, paediatric arrhythmias, family evaluation following sudden cardiac death, sports cardiology and aortopathy services.
This is an exciting time to join the ICC service, with ongoing plans to develop patient pathways and expand the role of the specialist nurse, including support for the sudden cardiac death pathway. We are looking for a nurse with experience or a strong interest in inherited cardiac conditions who is keen to develop their clinical, leadership and project management skills.

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
- Registered Nurse
- Relevant post graduate/registration cardiac course, ENB 100 or equivalent.
- BSc degree (or equivalent) in associated subject.
- Has attained or is working towards a master’s degree in relevant subject or has equivalent experience.
- All staff are expected to take responsibility for their own continual personal development
- Experience working as CNS/ICC experience
- SLICE / ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Genetic/ Counselling training
- Aortopathy experience
- Advanced Physical Assessment qualification
Experience and Knowledge
- At least 4 years cardiology Nursing experience.
- Aware of current issues in cardiac or ICC Specialist nursing
- Experience of working as a nurse specialist.
- Research and audit experience, indepth knowledge of EP/cardiomyopathy/aortopathy and genetic risks.
Skills
- Managing the care of patients with ICC’s.
- Managerial, organisational and leadership skills
