Interim Accountant (Financial Reporting & Commercial Support) – 3 Month Contract
LOCATION: Leeds, hybrid (3 days in the office, 2 at home)
RATE: c£225 – £250 per day, via umbrella company
TERM: 3 months, start within about a week

The last quarter of the year is strange. Interviews slow down, decisions slide into January, and the bills carry on regardless.
This is a three-month interim role designed for exactly that gap. You could start within a week, be paid £250 a day, and finish around the time the permanent market picks up again. Keep interviewing for your next role while this one covers the rent. No career move to explain, no job to untangle yourself from.
The Business
A large, well-known Yorkshire business with new owners since May and a modernisation programme under way. The finance team is being reshaped by managers who want to do things better, and they need a capable pair of hands while they do it. It is a name that is easy to talk about in interviews, and a story worth telling: you helped a team through change.
The Role
The job title says, assistant. The rate says otherwise. They would rather pay for someone who can start quickly and needs very little hand-holding, so you will be supporting three areas at once:
- Financial reporting and month-end: schedules, prepayments, accruals, journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Management accounts and commercial finance: data prep and analysis, cost centre reporting, weekly and monthly reporting, budget support
- Regular and ad hoc reporting, plus audit schedules and year-end support as the business moves to a December year-end
Day-to-day it is Excel-heavy: lookups, SumIFs and pivot tables, rather than anything exotic.
What We Are Looking For
- Part Qualified/Newly Qualified or finalist-level (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent), with hands-on month-end experience
- Strong, confident Excel experience (VLookups/Sumifs)
- A medium or larger business background, ideally one that has been through change
- Proactive and curious: you stop and ask “does this look right?” rather than trusting the process
- Happy to juggle several pieces of work at once
The Honest Bit
This is a hands-on support role priced as a senior one. You will be getting stuck into schedules and reporting rather than leading month-end, and some tasks will be routine. The upside is that you should find the core work comfortable, which leaves room to go looking for where else you can add value. The best interims leave a team in a better place than they found it.
