Fortinet Network Security Consultant — remote, Wales based, £50,000–£70,000 + on-call
£50,000–£70,000 + ~£5,000 on-call allowance | Remote | Wales
Our client is a specialist Fortinet network security consultancy delivering enterprise-grade projects across the UK. They’re looking for a Fortinet Network Security Consultant — the level and salary depends entirely on what you bring. Strong delivery engineer with NSE4? £50k end. Senior architect with NSE7 depth who can lead technically and reduce dependency at the top? £70k end. Everything in between is on the table.
Project-based, customer-facing, predominantly remote. Design, migration, build, test, handover — and the confidence to own it.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Design, migrate, build, test, and hand over Fortinet network security solutions for enterprise customers
- Own projects end to end — from initial design through to customer sign-off
- Work predominantly remotely — site visits are minimal (typically 2–3 days per 30-day project), mileage reimbursed
- Communicate directly and confidently with customers throughout the project lifecycle
- At senior level: provide technical authority and architectural direction to the wider project team
- Participate in an on-call rota — 1 in 6 weeks, 6pm–8am, 13.5% allowance (~£5,000/year)
TECH STACK
- Fortinet FortiGate (Fortinet-specialist environment — no Palo Alto or Firepower)
- NSE4 minimum | NSE7 for senior / architect level
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Hands-on Fortinet FortiGate experience — CLI configuration, design, and deployment
- NSE4 minimum — candidates without NSE4 considered if they can achieve it quickly
- Project delivery background — you’ve taken network security projects from design through to handover
- At senior level: architectural design capability and the confidence to be the technical authority
- Strong customer-facing communication skills — you represent the business directly with clients
- Based in South Wales — Cardiff preferred, North Wales considered (2 days/month in office, hotel covered)
- Right to work in the UK and able to pass a DBS check
Note:
There is a short technical assessment early in the process — a 30-minute FortiGate CLI configuration exercise over Teams. Come prepared.
THE PACKAGE
- £50,000–£70,000 base salary — level and experience dependent
- ~£5,000 on-call allowance (13.5% of base) — 1 in 6 weeks, 6pm–8am
- Mileage reimbursed for all site travel
- NSE7 training and certification supported
- Remote-first with 2 days/month in the South Wales office
WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
- Fortinet-specialist environment — go deep on one platform and become genuinely expert
- Salary range reflects real flexibility — they’ll pay for the right level, not a fixed budget
- Predominantly remote with very low site visit frequency
- Project-based delivery — meaningful work with a clear start and end, not an endless support queue
- On-call well compensated at 13.5% — above average for the market
- NSE7 funded — a significant certification that opens doors at the senior end of the market
