Compliance Manager

Overview

As a senior compliance lead in a startup-like online gambling operator, you will shape the compliance approach from the ground up and challenge existing processes to fit regulatory and risk needs. You will develop policies, controls, and Safer Gambling practices, collaborating with cross-functional teams to embed compliance into daily operations. Your impact spans KYC, AML, and regulatory reporting, influencing how the business scales while maintaining integrity. This role offers meaningful influence, direct interaction with senior leadership, and the opportunity to build a robust compliance function as the company grows.

Responsibilities

• Own the compliance and KYC framework for sportsbook and online casino, aligning with UK Gambling Commission requirements and LCCP.
• Review and implement policies, procedures, and controls, and propose changes as needed.
• Oversee KYC, customer risk assessments, CDD, EDD, Source of Funds and Source of Wealth processes.
• Provide senior guidance on high-risk cases and ensure escalation and documentation.
• Maintain AML and financial crime controls across the business.
• Develop Safer Gambling policies, including customer monitoring and account restrictions.
• Act as a senior internal contact for regulatory matters and manage regulatory inquiries.
• Prepare six-monthly regulatory reports/submissions to the Gambling Commission with accuracy and timeliness.
• Monitor regulatory changes and translate them into practical policy updates.
• Ensure auditable documentation of compliance decisions and processes.
• Support regulatory assessments, audits, and information requests.
• Collaborate with operations, product, payments, and customer-facing teams to embed compliance in daily work.
• Deliver or oversee compliance, AML, KYC, and Safer Gambling training.
• Develop compliance capabilities, systems, and team structure to support growth.

Key requirements

• Significant compliance and KYC experience in a UK-regulated online gambling operator ( sportsbook and online casino ).
• Current or suitable Personal Management Licence (PML) and senior regulated role experience.
• Strong experience dealing with the UK Gambling Commission.
• Detailed knowledge of LCCP, UKGC requirements, and wider UK gambling regulation.
• Hands-on experience with KYC, AML, CDD, EDD, Source of Funds, and Source of Wealth.
• Understanding of Safer Gambling and customer interaction requirements across sportsbook and casino.
• Experience handling complex or high-risk customer cases.
• Experience preparing regulatory reporting and documentation for the Gambling Commission.
• Strong writing skills to draft clear, workable policies and risk assessments.
• Ability to work independently and challenge senior management when needed.
• Enjoyment of a start-up environment with evolving processes and hands-on delivery.
• Experience helping to establish or grow a compliance function within a new or expanding operator is valuable.
