Data Engineering Lead

Overview

As Data Engineering Lead at THG, you will own the technical vision for how data is ingested, transformed and served across Customer, Commercial and Operations. You’ll lead a six-engineer team and work closely with Ingenuity to build domain datasets that can be trusted at scale. You’ll drive architecture, standards, and AI-enabled improvements to create a single, reliable view of the business. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic leadership to enable data-driven decision making and analytics at THG.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the data engineering architecture across three domains
• Set consistent standards and enable cross-domain data joins
• Lead migrations and modernization of the BigQuery/GCP platform
• Enforce engineering practices: version control, testing, error handling, documentation
• Build structured, reliable domain datasets for analytics, data science, and BI
• Collaborate with Ingenuity to shape platform inputs and integrate data feeds
• Partner with Data Governance to implement standards in engineering practice
• Manage and coach a team of six engineers and drive career progression
• Foster engineering excellence and continuous improvement

Key requirements

• Hands-on expert BigQuery and GCP experience with production pipelines
• Strong Python skills for pipeline development and automation
• Experience across at least two of Customer, Commercial, Operations domains
• Proven track record evolving data architecture for storage and consumption
• Deep data modelling, pipeline design, and distributed architecture
• Experience with Dataform or dbt for data transformation
• Demonstrated use of AI in data engineering and automated quality checks
• Experience mentoring engineers
