Transport Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead and optimise the day-to-day transport operation to ensure safe, legal, and timely deliveries while upholding service standards. You will manage a team of drivers and planners, drive continuous improvement, and maintain strong customer and stakeholder relationships. The position combines safety, compliance, and cost-aware performance in a fast-paced logistics environment. You will shape how the operation delivers value at scale through leadership and data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily transport operations to ensure safe, compliant, and on-time deliveries
• Ensure compliance with transport legislation (Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, Operator Licence)
• Develop and motivate a team of drivers, managers and transport planners
• Monitor KPIs (service levels, vehicle utilisation, on-time delivery, cost efficiency) and drive improvements
• Investigate incidents and breaches and implement corrective actions
• Oversee fleet management activities (maintenance, availability, defect reporting)
• Build strong relationships with customers and stakeholders to maintain service excellence
• Foster a culture of safety, engagement, and continuous improvement
• Manage budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining standards

Key requirements

• International CPC Qualification (essential)
• Experience in a Transport Manager or Transport Operations Management role
• Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements
• Proven leadership experience in transport, logistics, or distribution
• Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to analyse operational data and implement improvements
• Strong stakeholder management and customer service focus
• Proficiency in transport management systems and Microsoft Office
