Building Surveyor

Overview

In this Building Surveyor role, you lead a diverse portfolio of building surveying and project management projects for an established consultancy. You will act as Lead Consultant, coordinating clients, design teams, and contractors to deliver schemes on time and within budget. You’ll manage programmes, documentation, costs, and contracts, while supporting planning and building regulations submissions. This is an opportunity to drive high-quality outcomes in a client-facing, multidisciplinary setting and progress toward chartered status.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a varied portfolio of building surveying and construction project management projects
• Coordinate clients, design teams, contractors and other stakeholders as Lead Consultant
• Prepare and manage project programmes, risk registers and project documentation
• Prepare or oversee specifications, tender documentation and construction information
• Coordinate design development and drawings
• Assist with planning applications and building regulations submissions
• Manage tender processes, evaluate contractor submissions and advise on appointments
• Chair project meetings and produce accurate minutes
• Administer construction contracts and monitor progress
• Manage project costs, budgets, expenditure and final accounts where applicable

Key requirements

• Degree in Building Surveying, Project Management or related discipline
• Proven experience in construction project management
• Experience delivering building surveying and/or project management projects
• Intermediate-level experience in NBS specification writing
• Experience preparing and managing project programmes using Microsoft Project
• Strong communication, organizational and client-facing skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and work independently
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and delivering successful project outcomes
• RICS chartership is desirable or willingness to pursue it
