Software Development Manager – Application Security

Overview

In this role you will lead and build an AI-driven Security Operations Center that autonomously triages, investigates, and responds to security events. You’ll shape the Blue Team’s software and culture while contributing to code and system design in Clio’s core applications. You’ll work closely with Red Team and Threat Intelligence to harden infrastructure and product security, continuously pushing automation to reduce manual toil. The role combines hands-on engineering with leadership to scale follow-the-sun security operations. You’ll hook into Clio’s mission to protect users and data with cutting-edge AI-enabled defenses.

Responsibilities

• Design and build an AI-driven SOC that monitors, triages, investigates, and responds with minimal human toil
• Own detection engineering, including detection-as-code, testing, and tuning
• Ensure automation is trustworthy with guardrails, audit trails, and clear escalation paths
• Collaborate with Threat Intelligence to translate tactics into hardening work and detections
• Harden Clio’s products and infrastructure, pushing security controls into platforms used by product teams
• Work with Red Team to identify and fix vulnerabilities, and validate fixes through exercises
• Develop automated detection and response for product abuse (e.g., account takeover, fraud)
• Lead hiring, growth, and visibility of the team across the company
• Review PRs from SOC agents and engineering teams to ensure secure implementations
• Define team scaling toward follow-the-sun coverage

Key requirements

• Strong software development skills with ability to directly impact code
• Experience leading engineers or as a tech lead with growth into people management
• Hands-on security experience: secure development and vulnerability remediation
• Comfort making automation/AI decisions where failure has high cost and designing fail-safe systems
