Senior Cable System Design Engineer (Transmission & Distribution)

Overview

In this role you will lead full lifecycle HV/EHV cable system design for onshore projects within a global T&D team. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for high-stakes infrastructure, from feasibility through commissioning, including engagement with major operators and national grids. You’ll apply advanced analysis and leverage automation tools to drive efficient, compliant designs at scale. Responsibilities

• Deliver end-to-end cable engineering packages from feasibility to commissioning
• Review and optimize HV cable designs including routing, burial risk, and mechanical/thermals calculations
• Perform cable rating and system studies (ampacity, short-circuit, thermal stability, EMI)
• Conduct cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies
• Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams for integrated solutions
• Coordinate third-party inspections and support FAT/SAT and commissioning activities
• Interface with manufacturers and contractors to ensure compliance with IEC, CIGRÉ, NG-TPs and other standards
• Participate in client meetings, workshops, HAZID/HAZOPs, and multidisciplinary coordination

Key requirements

• Experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV projects
• FEED experience essential
• Understanding of onshore cable routing, burial risk, and protection strategies
• Knowledge of electromagnetic, thermal and stability analysis
• Experience with cable pulling, cleating, and short-circuit restraint
• Familiarity with IEC, CIGRÉ, and NG-TPs standards
• Experience with ECI engineering, subsea control, cable manufacturing/testing, and third-party inspection
