Consultant Psychiatrist – CAMHS

Overview

As a Consultant Psychiatrist on the CAMHS ward, you will lead clinical care and tailor treatment plans to support young patients’ recovery. You will steer multidisciplinary rounds, risk reviews, and treatment planning, while acting as the Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health Act. You’ll contribute to governance, service development, and training, and provide on-call cover across sites. This role offers the chance to shape high-quality care within a respected mental health service.

Responsibilities

• Take clinical responsibility for patients and lead ward rounds, risk reviews, and treatment planning
• Act as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act (1983)
• Lead psychiatric assessments, support admissions, and provide specialist input to the multidisciplinary team
• Contribute to clinical governance, service development, and strategic planning
• Supervise and mentor junior medical staff, contribute to training programmes, and maintain CPD and revalidation
• Participate in the on-call rota and provide cover across satellite sites when required

Key requirements

• MRCPsych (or equivalent)
• CCT (or equivalent)
• GMC Specialist Register
• Section 12(2) approval
• Approved Clinician status
