Risk & Compliance Associate – Engine by Starling

Overview

In this role within Engine’s Risk & Compliance team, you help ensure operation within the Risk Framework and adherence to Policies, safeguarding certifications and risk appetite. You collaborate with InfoSec and Legal to meet regulatory requirements across UK and client jurisdictions, while supporting the delivery of SaaS products. You will help identify and mitigate risks, maintain risk registers, and support governance committees. This is an autonomous, collaborative role in a fast-growing SaaS business shaping banking solutions worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Identify potential risks to the organisation and support risk assessment and monitoring
• Maintain risk registers and track actions; assist with Risk & Control Self-Assessments
• Coordinate information for Engine and Group Committees and the Engine Board
• Horizon scan for emerging risks and escalate to stakeholders
• Support client due diligence and KYB activities, including documentation review and updates
• Perform sanctions checks and initial client screenings, documenting results and flagging issues
• Assist with third-party risk assessments and due diligence
• Monitor mandatory compliance training and policy attestations
• Maintain compliance registers (Gifts & Hospitality, Conflicts of Interest) and escalate relevant matters
• Collaborate with multiple departments to support risk management and assurance reviews
• Provide risk management support to team members

Key requirements

• Understanding of operational risk, compliance, due diligence and internal controls
