Lead Commercial Auditor

Overview

In this role you will lead the commercial audit program within our Commercial Assurance Contract Audit Team, ensuring contract costs align with terms and uncover opportunities for improvement. You will work with business partners and external auditors to scrutinise spend, identify wastage, and provide robust, evidence-based findings. You will shape audit reports and engage stakeholders to drive value and compliance. This is a chance to impact how we manage contracts in a customer-focused, environmentally responsible utility.

Responsibilities

• Carry out commercial contract audits to verify costs align with contract terms and conditions
• Gather intelligence from business partners to define audit scope and obtain sign-off
• Perform detailed data analysis of claimed costs against contractual obligations and pricing schedules
• Identify commercial control deficiencies and financial wastage; propose sustainable recommendations
• Produce audit reports with robust findings and supporting evidence
• Collaborate with Commercial and Capital Delivery stakeholders on audit progress and leads
• Coordinate with external audit framework partners to support audits and guide internal stakeholders

Key requirements

• Degree level in Finance, Accounting or Quantity Surveying, or equivalent qualifications (MCIPS)
• Experience leading and managing an audit plan
• Strong communication skills across all levels of the organisation
• Basic knowledge of auditing principles
• Ability to apply procedures and solve problems independently
• Knowledge or experience of NEC4 ECC and Alliance contracts (desirable)
• Advanced MS Excel with strong analytical skills
