Associate Director – Professional Indemnity / Financial Institutions – Legal Technical and Claims

Overview

In this role you will serve as a senior technical expert on financial lines coverage and claims, supporting nominated major clients and cross-functional teams. You will lead claims advocacy, provide escalation support for complex PI and FI matters, and help shape client propositions and tenders. You’ll draft and review policy wordings, advise on coverage, and maintain governance and compliance. This position offers influence over client outcomes, market-facing solutions, and professional development within a collaborative global team.

Responsibilities

• Lead claims advocacy for nominated clients from notification to resolution
• Act as senior escalation point for complex PI and FI claims and provide expert guidance
• Advise on policy wordings and coverage issues; support negotiations with insurers
• Draft base and bespoke policy wordings aligned with market developments and client needs
• Negotiate with insurers and build relationships across claims and underwriting teams
• Monitor legal, regulatory and market developments and translate into actionable advice
• Support and attend new business tenders
• Develop thought leadership, seminars, training and data propositions
• Contribute to departmental plans, projects and client value propositions
• Maintain governance, documentation and compliance, including peer reviews and audits
• Coach less experienced colleagues on complex claims and accounts
• Build trusted relationships with clients and internal stakeholders for renewals and opportunities

Key requirements

• Extensive experience in financial lines claims, policy wordings development or insurance-focused legal role
• Proven experience as a claims or technical wordings specialist in Lloyd’s and international markets
• Deep knowledge of financial lines claims handling and policy wordings; experience with complex matters
• Strong knowledge of insurance markets and regulatory environment affecting intermediaries and clients
• Experience advising clients on complex technical matters and negotiating with markets
• Experience drafting and interpreting policy wordings and claims documentation
