Engineering Manager

Overview

You will lead the Engineering Team to keep the bakery plant running efficiently, safely, and compliant. You’ll drive maintenance and improvement programmes, manage site projects, and ensure food safety and health & safety standards. You’ll develop the team, manage energy and environment standards, and steward budgets to meet targets. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with strategic planning in a fast-moving FMCG setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage maintenance and improvement programmes to boost bakery efficiency and meet performance targets
• Oversee site-based projects and ensure smooth operation during trials, resolving issues quickly
• Monitor plant and equipment for food safety compliance and take timely action
• Ensure adherence to health & safety legislation and company policies, maintaining a healthy and safe site
• Recruit, motivate and develop the engineering team to meet role profiles and performance goals
• Identify and implement energy management and environmental standards, driving site targets
• Develop revenue and capital budgets and manage expenditure to achieve budget targets

Key requirements

• Advanced engineering qualification (L5) apprenticeship or equivalent, HNC or C&G Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical qualifications; IEng accreditation
• Experience in a management role within an FMCG environment
• Knowledge of bread making processes, plant and technology
• Understanding of HR policies and employment law relevant to staff management
• H&S and Food Safety systems knowledge (IOSH or equivalent)
• IT proficiency (Microsoft Office, SAP, PLCs)
• Strong communication, coaching, and mentoring abilities
• Analytical, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills
• Commercial acumen and strategic thinking
