Head of Mechanical & Engineering Services

Overview

In this role you will lead the Mechanical & Engineering Services to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient building services across Haringey’s housing stock and corporate properties. You will provide strategic direction, manage major projects, and drive service improvements while overseeing budgets and contractor performance. Your leadership will enable safe, sustainable, and high-quality engineering outcomes across a large public portfolio. This is a high-visibility role that shapes capital and revenue programmes and engages senior stakeholders. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver resilient infrastructure that serves residents and aligns with council values.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery, development and compliance of mechanical, electrical, gas and water safety across housing stock and corporate properties
• Provide professional leadership across a diverse service area
• Ensure resident safety and statutory compliance
• Drive service improvement and oversee capital and revenue programmes
• Oversee major projects, contractor performance and budget management
• Implement innovative engineering solutions to support safe, sustainable buildings

Key requirements

• Qualified and/or suitably experienced engineering professional
• Extensive knowledge of building services, compliance requirements, project delivery and contract management
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders, secure funding, and drive strategic change
• Proven leadership in motivating and developing teams and delivering high-quality outcomes
• Strong communication, commercial awareness and financial acumen
