Senior Site Reliability Engineer

Overview

In this role you will strengthen the reliability and observability of critical cloud platforms, primarily on Azure. You will lead automation and operational improvements, collaborating with Cloud Operations, Support, DevOps and Engineering teams to scale, secure and optimize production services. You will drive incident investigations, metrics development and cloud cost management, while exploring AI-assisted tooling to boost automation and productivity. This position offers hands-on leadership in a fast-growing cloud platform function with a strong emphasis on security and governance.

Responsibilities

• Protect and improve production environments as part of the SRE team
• Prioritise a technical backlog focusing on reliability and scalability
• Lead investigations into outages, performance issues, and cloud spend
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions
• Automate repetitive operational tasks and build sustainable automation
• Provide technical leadership to Cloud Operations, Support, DevOps and Engineering
• Design and implement monitoring, alerting and dashboards across cloud platforms and microservices
• Deploy and configure observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Azure Monitor, OpenTelemetry)
• Develop custom metrics to improve operational visibility
• Create advanced queries, dashboards and alerts for distributed microservices
• Support production Kubernetes environments, especially AKS
• Contribute to cloud architecture, scoping and scalable platform solutions
• Support ongoing improvements to deployment, provisioning and operations
• Ensure platforms meet security, governance and compliance requirements
• Explore AI-assisted tools to enhance automation and troubleshooting

Key requirements

• Experience supporting business-critical cloud platforms and live production services
• Strong hands-on Azure knowledge
• Production experience with Kubernetes/AKS
• Extensive experience in platform engineering, cloud provisioning and observability
• Experience creating custom metrics, dashboards and alerts for microservices
• Advanced scripting or development skills (PowerShell, Python, C#)
• IaC experience with Bicep, ARM or Terraform
• Experience using Git
• Knowledge of SQL Server, Elasticsearch and data formats (YAML, JSON, XML)
• Understanding of microservices architecture and cloud platforms
• Experience defining SLOs/SLAs/SLIs and error budgets
• Excellent troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
• Ability to design scalable, secure cloud solutions
• Security clearance eligibility (NPPV3) and UK residence history in last 5 years
