Management Accountant

Overview

In this role you will take ownership of management accounting, financial reporting and controls across a varied, multi-entity portfolio. You will work within a finance team to provide insights, support budgeting and cash flow forecasting, and drive improvements in systems and processes. You will mentor an Assistant Accountant and partner with senior stakeholders to ensure robust financial reporting. This opportunity combines hands-on accounting with opportunities to influence automation and controls in a growing business.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and analysis for multiple entities
• Manage month-end processes including journals, accruals, prepayments, intercompany reconciliations
• Review and develop the Assistant Accountant
• Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor funding across entities
• Support budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and financial insight
• Produce financial reporting and commentary for senior stakeholders
• Support accounting for property and investment transactions (acquisitions, disposals, development)
• Prepare VAT returns and assist with tax/compliance
• Assist with statutory accounts and year-end audits
• Maintain strong financial controls and accurate records
• Identify opportunities to automate and improve reporting, systems and processes
• Support ad hoc projects, financial analysis, modelling and business initiatives

Key requirements

• Qualified, part-qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent
• Experience preparing management accounts in a multi-entity or complex environment
• Strong month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
• Experience mentoring or reviewing junior staff (advantageous)
• Advanced Excel and strong systems capability
• Experience with cloud-based accounting software such as Xero or similar
• Good understanding of UK accounting principles, VAT and financial controls
• Strong communication skills with non-finance stakeholders
