Overview
In this role you will support the SMR programme in a highly regulated nuclear context, overseeing the electrical system lifecycle from cabling datasets to V&V. You will partner with layout, installation, and cross-functional teams to ensure safe, compliant electrical designs and modular delivery. You’ll produce technical governance outputs and mentor junior engineers, shaping delivery of critical power systems. This is an impact-focused position at the intersection of design, verification, and supplier engagement.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and quality-check critical electrical datasets (load and cable schedules)
- Perform design calculations for electrical distribution networks (cable sizing, protection coordination, discrimination studies, earthing/lightning protection)
- Collaborate with Layout and Installation Assemblies to support factory-fabricated modular delivery of MEP modules
- Lead verification and validation activities for HV/LV networks, transformers, switchgear and cable routing to meet nuclear standards
- Interface with Mechanical, Civil, C&I, Safety and Supply Chain to resolve design issues
- Author technical reports for regulatory engagement and mentor junior engineers
- Act as intelligent customer when dealing with supplier deliverables and provide technical governance
Key requirements
- Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
- Proven experience across the electrical system lifecycle in a highly regulated industry
- Nuclear background desirable; Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Marine or Oil & Gas experience valued
- Profound understanding of HV/LV/MV power networks and electrical system architectures
- Familiarity with electrical design/analysis software (ETAP, SKM Power Tools or similar)
- Mastery of Systems Engineering methodologies (requirements management, interface controls, configuration traceability)
- Cross-functional collaboration
- Mentorship and technical leadership
- Strong communication and regulatory engagement
- HV/LV/MV power networks and architectures
- Electrical system design and analysis software (ETAP, SKM Power Tools)
- Systems engineering processes (requirements management, interfaces, configuration control)
