Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

You will design concept through detail for complex mechanical and multidisciplinary projects, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. In a collaborative role, you’ll work with stress engineers, procurement, manufacturing, and testing teams to substantiate designs and drive value engineering. The position balances site time with flexible home working and centers on delivering safe, compliant, high-quality design outcomes on national security projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop concept, scheme, and detail designs to meet project specifications and quality standards
• Produce and check technical drawings, 3D models, and associated documentation
• Ensure design compliance with applicable legislation, standards, and engineering requirements
• Apply conventional and nuclear safety principles throughout the design process
• Collaborate with Stress Engineers to define analysis requirements and support substantiation of design solutions
• Lead design reviews and contribute to value engineering initiatives
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and promote a culture of safety, quality, and learning
• Engage collaboratively with stakeholders, including procurement, manufacturing, assembly, and testing teams

Key requirements

• Professionally registered Engineer (CEng or IEng) with a Level 6 qualification (Bachelor’s Degree with Honours) in a relevant engineering discipline
• Significant experience in engineering design development and substantiation within a mechanical or multidisciplinary environment
• Strong understanding of applicable design codes, standards, and legislation (e.g., Machinery Directive, LOLER, PUWER, CDM)
• Competence in producing design risk assessments and documented design justifications
• Proven ability to produce and check high-quality engineering documentation and drawing outputs
• Eligible for Security Check (SC) clearance
• UK National (due to project security requirements)
