Senior Manager (Depot Operations) – Area 4

Overview

In this role you drive the day-to-day execution and continuous monitoring of network flow across depots and hub operations to meet service, quality, and cost targets. You act as the main link between senior management and on-site depot teams, ensuring safety, performance, and effective cost control. You collaborate with the hub operations group to tighten processes and deliver the operational plan. The position offers impact through network design input and hands-on leadership of multi-site teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver daily execution of plans across all depots to meet service targets
• Maintain high Quality and Health & Safety standards at depots
• Control costs to stay within budget
• Collaborate with hub operations and provide feedback/solutions
• Develop direct reports to meet KPI targets
• Provide on-the-ground feedback to refine network processes
• Coordinate setup or moves of depots as required
• Monitor performance against capacity and escalate issues
• Conduct regular reviews using dashboards to drive improvements
• Identify and implement contingency plans for operational risks
• Analyse depot route planning to fix inefficiencies
• Prepare plans for volume uplift during peak periods
• Authorize and monitor area-specific operational expenditure
• Review and audit use of routing tools and ensure adherence to plans
• Ensure fleet availability meets depot requirements
• Lead Site Managers to meet business performance targets
• Act as primary contact for Depot Managers on daily network issues
• Identify talent and support progression aligned with strategy
• Develop relationships with support functions to ensure compliance
• Present operational performance concisely to senior management
• Support Sales and CRM to aid revenue growth
• Identify quick-win efficiency gains
• Promote use of digital tools and best routing practices
• Support pilots of new processes
• Monitor driver hours and safety compliance
• Ensure environmental policy adherence at depot level
• Record sustainability data at depot level

Key requirements

• Hands-on parcel management or transport operations experience
• Proficiency with live routing systems (e.g., Quantum)
• Experience managing live operational teams across multiple sites
• Knowledge of UK transport regulations and safety compliance

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management
• Commercial acumen and ability to manage blue-collar and management stakeholders
