Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer – Food Manufacturing – East Midlands – Day Shifts!

£49,275 + 10% Shift Allowance

Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established food manufacturing operation. The role would suit an apprentice-trained Electrical or Mechanical Engineer with strong industrial maintenance experience, ideally within the food manufacturing sector. You will be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs and fault-finding across a range of production equipment, helping to maximise plant performance and minimise downtime.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across production equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose faults, complete repairs and identify root causes to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Provide hands‑on engineering support to production teams to maintain efficient plant operations.
  • Carry out instrumentation calibration and fault‑finding on electrical and control systems.
  • Fault‑find on HMIs, PLCs, DCS and SCADA systems.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, faults, root causes and spare parts usage within the CMMS.
  • Review contractor RAMS and ensure all work is completed in line with permits to work, risk assessments and company safe systems of work.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, environmental and food safety standards.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy and safe working environment across engineering facilities.
  • Ensure maintenance manuals, diagnostic instructions and specialist tools are available to support the engineering team.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve repair times, reliability and mean time between failures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve plant efficiency, reduce waste and minimise environmental impact.
  • Work with the wider engineering team to achieve site engineering KPIs and production targets.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will be an apprentice-trained Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer with an Electrical or Mechanical bias and experience working within an industrial manufacturing environment. Food manufacturing experience, particularly involving hygienic production equipment, is essential.

  • Planned preventative and predictive maintenance, alongside reactive breakdown support.
  • Instrumentation calibration and maintenance.
  • Fault‑finding on HMIs, PLCs, DCS and SCADA systems.
  • Using CMMS software to record and manage maintenance activities.
  • Working safely within established risk assessments, safe systems of work and permit‑to‑work procedures.
  • Supporting production teams to maximise equipment availability and minimise downtime.

Qualifications

  • City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering – essential.
  • HNC or HND in a relevant engineering discipline – desirable.
  • NEBOSH or IOSH health and safety qualification – desirable.
  • 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations – desirable.
  • CompEx EX01–EX04 and/or EX05–EX06 – desirable.

What you’ll bring

  • A proactive, safety‑first approach to engineering and maintenance.
  • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
  • A commitment to food safety, hygiene and high engineering standards.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
  • Good communication, record‑keeping and organisational skills.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
