Director of Strategic Finance

Overview

In this role you drive the financial model, budget and long-range plan for a fast-growing, profitable tech-finance business. You’ll partner with the CEO, CFO and leadership to shape capital allocation, expansion, and investor communications. You’ll tackle complex, cross-functional challenges and translate data into practical guardrails that protect the business while enabling growth. The role sits at the heart of Strategic Finance as Raylo scales toward IPO readiness, with a strong emphasis on AI-enabled decision making and governance.

Responsibilities

• Set direction and priorities for financial model, budget and forecasts across regions
• Challenge and guide two direct reports with investment banking backgrounds
• Set quarterly and annual growth targets with the leadership team
• Lead investor and board communications; support debt-financing activities
• Influence capital deployment including US expansion and potential M&A/partnerships
• Act as a second line of defence on commercial decisions and liquidity stress-testing
• Turn complex problems into practical guardrails and actionable solutions
• Lead cross-functional initiatives, test data, and drive implementation
• Self-serve data analysis using AI tools and SQL to answer strategic questions
• Demonstrate hands-on ownership; progress planning, and relationship with key stakeholders

Key requirements

• 10+ years of experience with at least 4–5 years in investment banking building financial models in M&A or advisory
• 3+ years as an operator in a high-growth startup or scale-up (ideally Series B+)
• Experience modelling balance-sheet-heavy or leveraged businesses
• Strong command of complex financial modelling and large multi-part models
• Hands-on use of AI tools for data analysis
• SQL experience or ability to learn quickly
• Decisive cross-functional collaborator with ability to influence senior stakeholders
• Curiosity with a deep understanding of how parts connect and how to raise risks
• Proactive direction-setting and ability to extract what is needed from across the business
• Direct and clear communication with senior leadership, board and investors
• Comfort with high ownership, fast-changing priorities and demanding work ethic
• Ambition to scale with the business and impact strategy globally
• Ability to mentor technically strong direct reports while staying hands-on
