The opportunity

Are you curious about what engineers are building, testing and trying to improve? Do you have the tenacity to find the right person, ask a better question and follow an opportunity through?

Yotta Volt helps engineering customers with test and measurement technology. We are looking for an Inside Sales Engineer to develop customer relationships, respond to enquiries and create new opportunities across our UK and Ireland business.

This is a commercial role for someone who enjoys understanding technical problems. You will handle incoming enquiries, develop suitable opportunities remotely and start relevant conversations with customers and prospects. You will work closely with field sales and marketing, involving colleagues when their expertise or a customer visit will move an opportunity forward.

What you will do

  • Turn enquiries into useful conversations. Respond promptly to product, application and pricing questions. Understand the customer’s work, answer what you can and bring in the right expertise when needed.
  • Create new opportunities. Work from relevant customer and prospect lists, including training attendees, previous enquiries and quotations, existing customers and selected target accounts. Find a credible reason to make contact and discover whether there is a real need.
  • Show curiosity in every conversation. Ask thoughtful questions, listen closely and learn what the customer is trying to achieve, what is difficult and what a useful next step would be.
  • Be tenacious with good judgement. Follow up commitments, look for a better route when an approach does not work and keep opportunities moving. Recognise when to change course or stop pursuing a poor fit.
  • Communicate with relevance. Use purposeful calls, clear personalised emails, online meetings and LinkedIn where appropriate. Make contact helpful rather than formulaic.
  • Own suitable opportunities. Develop customer relationships remotely, prepare and follow up quotations, agree next steps and progress opportunities through to a decision.
  • Create worthwhile field engagements. Establish why a visit would help the customer and brief the field colleague on the application, the people involved and the agreed purpose. Work together on the next step and ownership.
  • Keep customer business moving. Handle day-to-day commercial and purchasing enquiries, balance responsive service with proactive work and maintain accurate Salesforce records.

What you will bring

  • Curiosity about customers’ engineering work, with the confidence to ask questions and learn technical products and applications.
  • Tenacity: evidence that you have opened conversations, worked through setbacks and followed opportunities through without relying on a script or giving up after one attempt.
  • Experience in a customer-facing commercial role, with sound judgement about where your effort can create value.
  • Confidence speaking with customers by phone and writing clear, relevant emails.
  • Strong listening, organisation and follow-through; you can prioritise competing demands and keep your commitments.
  • The judgement to recognise when a customer needs a field salesperson or product specialist, and to make a useful handover.
  • Confidence using a CRM and everyday digital tools to organise your work and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Experience in technical sales, test and measurement, electronics, engineering or laboratory environments would be helpful. Familiarity with Salesforce, NI products or LabVIEW would also be useful. You do not need to know every product on day one; you do need to be willing to learn and to check technical claims before making them.

What success looks like

You will create and progress genuine opportunities, build productive customer relationships and help field colleagues make visits that customers find worthwhile. Customers will get timely, useful help. Your curiosity will uncover needs that a routine follow-up would miss, and your tenacity will turn promising conversations into clear next steps.

The role offers room to deepen your commercial and technical skills and to build a career in inside sales, with potential to move into field sales as your capabilities develop.
