Design Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the end-to-end design process for complex projects, ensuring solutions meet client requirements, budgets, and timelines. You will collaborate with consultants to deliver coordinated, buildable designs while managing risk and maximizing value. The position sits within Galliford Try’s Building London business, offering exposure to high-profile commercial and mixed-use schemes and a clear path for professional growth. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to uphold safety, quality and timely delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design process and coordinate consultants to deliver robust designs on time and to budget
• Identify contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and pursue value engineering opportunities
• Support pipeline fulfilment of contracts safely, on time, and to required quality
• Lead appointment and management of design consultants, ensuring contractual requirements and deliverables are defined
• Review and appraise consultant fee proposals and monitor consultant performance for collaboration and quality
• Produce KPI assessments and progress reports; manage CDP packages and ensure CDM 2015 compliance
• Oversee design information flow on Design & Build and CDP-heavy contracts within programme constraints using the CDE
• Assess design outputs against relevant RIBA Stages and ensure alignment with Employer’s Requirements
• Ensure designs prioritise health, safety, buildability and compliance with project specifications

Key requirements

• New build and refurbishment experience across commercial, residential, mixed-use, hotel and city centre developments
• Experience in managing designers and other consultants
• Proven track record of delivering projects on time, within budget and to required quality
• Strong problem-solving ability and customer-focused mindset
• Computer literacy and commercial awareness
• Good time management and multi-tasking abilities
• Decision-making capability and team leadership

• HNC/HND/Degree in Construction/Design
• Member of CIOB/RIBA/RICS
