Senior Technical Accountant

Overview

In this Senior Technical Accountant role at Zopa Bank, you’ll provide expert technical accounting support for new activities, products and initiatives, and contribute to the annual report. You’ll own technical accounting assessments, policy development, and horizon scanning, partnering with Product, Legal and Risk to deliver polished financial reporting. You will help automate the production of the annual report and explore AI-driven improvements to accounting processes. The role blends hands-on policy work with cross-functional collaboration in a fast-growing fintech environment, with a hybrid London-based setup.

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical accounting assessments for new transactions, products, contracts and initiatives; draft accounting papers and memos
• Help own the annual report and accounts, drafting sections and coordinating inputs across Finance and the business
• Manage stakeholders and provide practical technical accounting advice to cross-functional teams
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and manuals; guide policy application
• Enable new accounting treatments by aligning systems and BAU processes
• Support balance sheet activities, including SPPI testing and hedge accounting documentation under IFRS 9 and IAS 39
• Assist with month-end reporting as needed
• Collaborate with external auditors on accounting policy and technical matters
• Perform horizon scanning of new legislation and standards, prepare impact assessments
• Contribute to automating annual report production and apply AI to accounting processes
• Stay up-to-date with developments in financial and corporate reporting

Key requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with relevant post-qualification experience
• Experience in financial services (banking or consumer finance) or FS-focused technical accounting in a top firm
• Strong IFRS knowledge and applicability to financial services products
• Clear written communication; experience drafting technical accounting papers
• Curious and proactive, able to drive system/process improvements
• Team player with strong stakeholder relationship skills; capable of multi-tasking in a fast-moving environment
• Interest in AI applications in accounting
