Tech Lead – New Customers Team

Overview

In this Tech Lead role, you guide the engineering behind how new businesses become iwoca customers, from application to funding. You’ll lead a small team and own the roadmap for moving offer logic from a legacy monolith to multiple services. Your work will translate models and business rules into robust lending decisions in production, with a focus on reliability and adaptability as models evolve. You’ll collaborate with data scientists, product, and strategy to drive customer-first outcomes and measurable lifetime value. This is a chance to shape high-impact customer journeys in fintech and help scale lending for SMEs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and line-manage two engineers, shaping the team’s work and end-to-end delivery
• Define and own the engineering roadmap, prioritising migration from monoliths to services
• Design and implement services that operationalise models and lending rules
• Build infrastructure to test models on live applications and monitor long-running experiments
• Ensure production reliability and maintainability as models evolve
• Collaborate with data scientists and product/strategy to align technical work with business goals
• Drive legacy migration while preserving dependent systems and data
• Recruit and grow the team with the right skills and specialties

Key requirements

• Technical leadership: >=2 years of line management while remaining hands-on
• Backend engineering: deep OO language expertise, production-grade systems
• Commercial or product thinking: translate business goals into technical plans with customer impact
• AI leverage: experience with agentic workflows or using AI to augment engineering work
• Communication: clear, concise, audience-appropriate explaining of trade-offs
