Data Analyst

Overview

In this role you will analyse people data to reveal what the research culture is really like, enabling evidence-based decisions that support improvement and the REF 2029 submission. You will work closely with HR Management Information and the People, Culture and Environment initiative to turn data into actionable insights. The role sits within Workforce Development to strengthen data quality and analytical capability across the university. You will help shape how we evidence our culture and development across the institution.

Responsibilities

• Analyse large and complex people data to uncover insights about research culture
• Develop reports, dashboards and visualisations to inform decisions using Power BI and Excel
• Support the REF 2029 People, Culture and Environment evidence project
• Improve data quality and data management practices across multiple sources
• Provide data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement and decision making
• Collaborate with HR teams to translate insights into actions and improvements

Key requirements

• Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
• Advanced Excel skills (data manipulation, analysis, reporting)
• Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools for reporting and visualization
• Experience analysing data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement
• Ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to data quality and accuracy
• Experience with multiple data sources and large datasets
• Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outputs to timescales
