Engineering Manager – Manufacturing Manager

Overview

In this role you lead the on-site engineering function to maximise machine uptime, support production plans, and sustain safe, compliant operations. You’ll work closely with Production Managers to minimise downtime, drive preventative maintenance, and coach a high-performing engineering team. The role emphasizes continuous improvement, budget stewardship, and skill development within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. You help shape a proactive, safety-focused culture that delivers reliable customer service and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Minimise machinery downtime through planned preventive maintenance
• Ensure safe working practices and daily attainment of production plans
• Maintain site facilities and fabrication capabilities while meeting audit standards
• Manage engineering budget and investments for continuous improvement
• Drive continuous improvement culture and legal compliance within engineering
• Promote preventative maintenance using CMMS and SCADA systems
• Develop engineering skill base and succession planning, including apprenticeships
• Support external/internal customer service targets and staff engagement metrics

Key requirements

• Experience in manufacturing/FMCG or fast-paced, commercially focused environments
• Excellent communication and a proven track record of coaching and engaging a team
• Assertiveness and decisiveness in leadership situations
• Can-do attitude and proactive problem solving
• Graduate calibre or equivalent with leadership experience in engineering
• Strong leadership, engagement, and motivation skills for CI initiatives
