Mechanical Design Engineer – Water

Overview

In this role you will develop mechanical designs for water and wastewater projects within a growing in-house design team. You will work across tender, design development, and delivery stages, collaborating with process, civil, electrical, and construction teams to deliver practical, buildable solutions. The position offers exposure to ECI work on large utilities programmes and a chance to shape engineering outcomes from concept to implementation.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for water and wastewater projects
• Support equipment selection, specification and sizing
• Produce calculations, technical specifications, schedules and design documentation
• Support ECI, optioneering and value engineering activities
• Collaborate with Process Engineers to develop suitable mechanical solutions
• Coordinate designs with civil, structural and electrical disciplines
• Support projects through tender, design development and detailed design
• Liaise with suppliers, project teams and construction colleagues to ensure practicality and constructability
• Provide technical support during project delivery and resolve design queries

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• Previous mechanical design experience in water or wastewater sector
• Knowledge of mechanical plant and equipment used in water/wastewater infrastructure
• Experience producing calculations, specifications and design documentation
• Ability to coordinate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Experience in consultancy, contracting or design&build environments (beneficial)
• Chartered status or progress towards Chartership (beneficial but not essential)
