Design Engineer
Location: Derry / Londonderry
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team, supporting the development of innovative mobile recycling machinery.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the design and development of new products, while improving existing machinery to enhance performance, reliability and manufacturing efficiency. Working closely with the Lead Engineer and wider cross-functional teams, you will contribute to exciting new product development projects within a growing and innovative engineering environment.
The Role
As Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering engineering solutions for new product development and existing product modifications, ensuring designs meet the required standards for safety, functionality, reliability and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of new products and modifications to existing mobile recycling machinery.
- Apply engineering best practices, including FMEA, design for manufacture, prototype development and field testing.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and effective management of released design data.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs through design improvements and collaboration with production, purchasing and suppliers.
- Investigate customer complaints and implement effective engineering solutions.
- Keep up to date with new technologies, component developments and competitor designs to drive continuous product improvement.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver projects within agreed timescales.
- Assess technical and commercial risks associated with new designs and product changes.
The Person
We are keen to hear from candidates with a strong mechanical design background and a passion for developing innovative engineering solutions.
Essential Criteria:
- Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Experience using 3D modelling CAD software, ideally CREO.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Experience in product design and development within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and meet project deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess design alternatives and identify technical risks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive, innovative approach with a strong focus on quality and continuous improvement.
