MEP Design Manager

Overview

As Design Manager / Technical Services Manager (MEP), you will lead the MEP design and interface with external consultancies, shaping technical delivery on major residential schemes. You’ll be a visible part of the project leadership, guiding a team of design coordinators and driving value through design optimization and modern methods of construction. You contribute to programs, chair key meetings, and ensure safety and process improvements across projects. This role offers growth as the MEP function scales with the client’s development program.

Responsibilities

• Own M&E delivery on significant projects
• Oversee and coordinate MEP design with external consultancies
• Lead and manage a team of Design Coordinators and Managers
• Assess design for completeness, quality, and value engineering opportunities
• Promote off-site fabrication and MMC approaches
• Contribute to project programmes and timely project support
• Lead and participate in client and design team meetings
• Drive best practices and continuous improvement in processes
• Monitor Health & Safety compliance and safety management systems
• Prepare and present project reports to stakeholders

Key requirements

• Experience at Technical Services Manager / Design Manager level on projects with MEP value > £10m
• Residential project experience essential
• Proven track record in industry with design and construction processes
• Strong understanding of pre-construction and design phase management
• Ability to collate team information for project reports
• Knowledge of Health & Safety policies and safety management systems
• Experience with design consultancies and main contractors or developers (advantageous to have both)
• CIBSE membership advantageous
