Head of Finance Operations & Systems – Argos

Overview

In this role you lead Finance Operations across Order to Cash and Purchase to Pay, shaping strategy and transformation to deliver service excellence, cost efficiency, and strong controls. You’ll manage onshore and offshore teams and oversee an outsourced delivery model to align with wider Finance objectives. You provide financial partnership and insight to senior leaders, driving continuous improvement and robust governance. This is a high-impact leadership position in a fast-moving retail environment.

Responsibilities

• Set strategic direction and operational priorities for Finance Operations (OTC and P2P) and translate business strategies into service, control, and cost outcomes
• Lead and develop the Finance Operations leadership team, including resource allocation and succession planning
• Oversee governance and performance of the outsourced delivery model, ensuring cost, service levels, and controls align with strategy
• Provide financial partnership, insights, and constructive challenge to leaders across Finance, Technology, and business units
• Maintain a strong financial control environment and ensure compliance with audit and regulatory requirements
• Influence senior stakeholders with clear financial analysis and opportunities to support decision-making
• Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver strategic objectives and continuous improvement
• Manage risk and drive performance improvements across high-volume transactional processes
• Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture across onshore and offshore teams

Key requirements

• Professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience leading finance operations in a large, complex organisation (retail/FMCG desirable)
• Experience managing outsourced/service governance and contract oversight
• History leading teams through significant operational/technology-enabled change
• Ability to interpret financial information, identify risks/opportunities, and influence senior stakeholders while ensuring compliance
