Lead Data Engineer – Databricks | Contract
Huddersfield – 4 days onsite
c£550 per day – Outside IR353
3 month initial contract – potential extension to 6 months
We re supporting a major UK organisation through a significant transformation of its data estate and are looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to provide immediate technical leadership and hands-on delivery.
This is a proper hands-on engineering role. We need someone who can hit the ground running, take ownership and help establish a modern Databricks data platform without needing significant support from the existing team.
What you’ll be doing:
– Hands-on Data Engineering within Databricks
– Designing and building robust data pipelines
– Supporting the development of bronze, silver and gold data layers
– Taking ownership of engineering standards and delivery
– Leading and supporting existing Data Engineers
– Prioritising and allocating engineering work
– Working closely with Data & Enterprise Architecture
– Helping create trusted, reusable data models and single sources of truth
– Supporting knowledge transfer from the existing Databricks Solution Architect
– Helping transition the platform into a sustainable BAU engineering capability
What we re looking for:
– Strong hands-on Databricks experience
– Excellent SQL and Data Engineering fundamentals
– Proven experience designing and building production data pipelines
– Experience working within complex enterprise data environments
– Previous technical leadership/people management experience
– Able to operate independently and make an impact from day one
– Strong stakeholder communication skills
– Pragmatic, proactive and comfortable working in a fast-moving transformation environment
There’s a substantial pipeline of data transformation ahead, so this is a great contract for someone who enjoys getting stuck into an evolving environment and helping shape how things are built.
3 months initially, with potential to extend to 6 months.
