Description
The Head Tunnelman is responsible for the effective maintenance, preparation, and monitoring of the vessel’s self-unloading cargo system and associated tunnel machinery. Reporting to the Chief Engineer and Chief Officer for cargo system maintenance and operations, this role focuses on the operation and upkeep of conveyor systems, gates, belts, fluid drives, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, rollers, bearings, and related equipment. The Head Tunnelman is expected to coordinate tunnel preparation before loading and discharge, ensure safe working practices, support environmental procedures, and carry out all assigned maintenance and cargo-related duties in accordance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate the vessel’s self-unloading cargo system and associated tunnel machinery, ensuring safe and efficient performance.
- Coordinate tunnel preparation before loading and discharge.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company procedures during cargo operations.
- Perform maintenance on conveyor systems, gates, belts, fluid drives, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, rollers, and bearings.
- Support safe working practices and environmental procedures.
