Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner – Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse
North East London NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a permanent Band 6 Community Psychiatric Nurse to join the Waltham Forest Mental Health & Wellness Team Central, based at the Jane Atkinson Centre. The role is 37.5 hours per week, salary Band 6 (£39,959 – £48,117) plus a 15% High Cost Area Supplement. Start date 7 October 2026, application close 7 October 2026.

The Role
As a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner you will support individuals with a range of mental health needs in a community setting, working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver timely, responsive, recovery‑focused interventions. You will engage with carers and relatives to ensure a holistic approach to care.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake holistic assessments and collaboratively formulate individual care plans with service users.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with service users, carers and relatives, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
- Participate in case conferences, reviews and multidisciplinary meetings to provide evidence‑based care.
- Support the team in triage and coordinate complex and challenging cases.
- Provide managerial supervision to junior colleagues, mentor MDT students and participate in ongoing educational and research programmes.
- Lead the use of electronic recording systems and maintain accurate, legible records in line with Trust policies.
- Work flexibly within the demands of the service, including shift patterns.
- Exchange fresh ideas, contribute to research, audit reviews and policy development in line with Clinical Governance.
- Implement best practice for safeguarding, risk management and the Mental Health Act.
- Promote equality and diversity, recognising religious/cultural needs in clinical practice.
- Advocate for service users’ rights and support their self‑determination.
- Ensure safe administration of medication in accordance with professional code of practice.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to assess service users’ needs and develop person‑centred care plans.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with service users, carers and professionals.
- Knowledge and application of relevant policies, procedures and legislation, including the Mental Health Act.
- Clinical judgement and commitment to safe, effective, compassionate care.
- Proficiency in IT and electronic recording systems.
