Job title: Fleet Support Technician (Decision Support Technician) Job Type: 12-Month Fixed Term Contract Location: Newcastle upon Tyne (NE3) Pay: £32,000 Basic Salary + 20% Shift Allowance (£38,400 Equivalent Earnings) Hours/Shift Pattern: 3 x 12-Hour Shifts | 24/7 Rotating Pattern We’re looking for a technically minded individual to join a busy operations and engineering team supporting a modern passenger rail fleet.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys fault finding, problem solving, and making decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Working primarily from a control room setting, you’ll play a key role in responding to in-service faults, supporting operational teams, and helping keep services running safely and reliably.
The Role You’ll act as a central point of contact when faults occur, working closely with drivers, controllers, and maintenance teams to assess issues and coordinate the appropriate response.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to train faults and service disruptions
- Provide technical support and fault diagnosis
- Coordinate with operational and maintenance teams
- Log and analyse faults using maintenance systems
- Support fleet reliability and performance improvements
- Produce reports and maintain accurate records
- Ensure safety, quality, and compliance standards are met
About You
- Experience in an engineering, maintenance, technical support, or operational environment
- Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
- Good understanding of electrical, mechanical, or vehicle systems
- Comfortable communicating with a range of stakeholders
- Able to make decisions and remain calm under pressure
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification desirable
