About therole
The Localities Team comprises of three service teams: Communities, Parish Liaison& Local Devolution and Migrant Programmes. Through collaboration, connection and engagement, the Localities Teamhas two core aims:
Preventionand community resilience
- Supporting communities to contribute to theCouncil and public health prevention priority to reduce, prevent or delay thepoint at which people need to access statutory health and social care services.
- Supporting people to live longer, healthierand independent lives within their community and contributing to broader publichealth priority to reduce health inequalities.
- Supporting communities to become moreresilient to respond to local challenges
- Ensuring that the places where people live,now and in the future, create new opportunities, promote well-being and reduceinequalities so that people have better lives, in stronger communities andachieve their potential.
TheCommunities Team approach is to work collaboratively in partnership withinternal services, external partners; communities; and voluntary and communityorganisations to achieve shared community objectives, build and strengthenrelationships and to support voluntary and community sector partners to becomemore sustainable and better able to meet increasing demand.
This role,based in Scarborough will work alongsidecolleagues in the East Communities Team to deliver the following programme ofwork:
- Increasethe active participation of residents in their local communities leadingto improved physical and mental well-being and a reduction in socialisolation and loneliness (Prevention).
Reduceadverse impacts of service or budget cuts on local communities and supportcommunities to be prepared for and respond to emergencies (CommunityResilience)
- Ensuringthat the places where people live, now and in the future, create newopportunities, promote well-being and reduce inequalities through thecreation of resilient and inclusive local economies that benefit the localarea. (Social Regeneration & Community Wealth Building)
- Ensurea corporate approach to ensuring that communities and agencies collaborateto make best use of resources, minimise wastage and are able to generatealternative sources of income (Community Partnerships).
The postsare classified as suitable for hybrid working with an office base at one of thelocal Council Offices. They require travel across the East Communities Teampatch, North Yorkshire, and occasionally beyond.
About you
This post requires a good knowledgeand understanding of effective partnership working, as well as soundcomprehension of the key challenges facing communities and public sectororganisations in North Yorkshire. Experience of working with communities to support and enable them todevelop, and a good understanding of the role of the community and voluntarysector in service delivery are also essential.
The work will require anentrepreneurial and motivated aptitude, excellent partnership and influencingskills, strong management capability, and the willingness and ability to workflexibly including some evenings and occasional weekends.

The post is for 12 months (until 30 September 2027 – MaternityCover), we can either accept a fixed term or secondment contract. The secondment will need to be agreed betweenyou and your current manager before employment starts.
