Downpatrick, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council 14.07/hour (PAYE) 36 hours per week | Temporary – 26 weeks

About the Role
We’re recruiting on behalf of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for a Household Recycling Centre (HRC) Operative to join their Neighbourhood Services team. You’ll be based at the Household Recycling Centre (HRC) – the local recycling and tip site – on Flying Horse Rd, Downpatrick, helping members of the public sort and dispose of their waste safely and responsibly.
You’ll play a key role in delivering a safe, courteous, and efficient recycling service to the public.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Operating the Civic Amenity and Recycling Centre, promoting recycling to all site users
- Handling cash and issuing receipts in line with council procedures
- Directing traffic and assisting members of the public with tipping
- Maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the site and surrounding area
- Completing site records, waste transfer notes, and other required paperwork
- Operating compactors and supporting contractors on site
- Ensuring health & safety and pest control standards are met
What We’re Looking For
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- A valid driving licence 9 Category B (car) licence required
- Strong customer service skills – you’ll be the council’s face to the public
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to follow site procedures
