Principal Engineer, Bridges & Structures – UK Wide

Location: Stockton on Tees, County Durham, United Kingdom

Role Overview

Lead the delivery of complex bridge and structure projects across the UK, driving innovation, sustainability, and quality through advanced engineering, mentorship, and cross‑disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor teams in structural analysis, feasibility studies, tender and detailed designs, and the preparation of contract documents and technical reports.
• Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated, high‑quality services to clients.
• Champion innovative thinking and diverse perspectives to identify best‑value solutions.
• Work closely with UK and Global Integrated Delivery teams to optimise resources and ensure efficient, successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and time‑management skills.
• Project management skills related to bridge design or other disciplines.
• Strong technical design and practical problem‑solving skills.

Desired Experience

• Background in bridge design, or equivalent experience in related disciplines and industries.
• Experience in asset management, structural renewals, and post‑tensioned structures, including post‑tensioned special inspections (PTSI).

Work Arrangement

• Hybrid: split work week between Jacobs offices/projects and remote locations.
