About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Support Worker to join our supported accommodation service in London.
You will provide practical, emotional and person-centred support to vulnerable adults, helping residents develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to achieve their personal goals.
Our residents may have a range of support needs, including experience of homelessness, mental health difficulties, learning disabilities, social vulnerability or other challenges affecting independent living. You will work alongside residents to help them maintain their wellbeing, manage day-to-day responsibilities and work towards greater independence.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in health and social care, supported housing or supported accommodation who is passionate about helping people make positive changes in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
As a Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:
Providing practical, emotional and person-centred support to residents.
Supporting residents with cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting and managing appointments.
Helping residents develop and maintain independent living skills.
Supporting residents to identify and achieve their personal goals.
Encouraging residents to engage with education, training and employment opportunities.
Supporting residents to work towards greater independence and, where appropriate, move-on to independent accommodation.
Promoting residents' health, wellbeing, dignity and safety.
Building positive and professional relationships with residents while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Identifying and reporting safeguarding concerns in line with organisational procedures.
Supporting risk assessments and following agreed risk management plans.
Responding appropriately to incidents, emergencies and challenging situations.
Maintaining accurate, up-to-date and confidential support records.
Recording appointments, key work sessions, incidents and relevant observations.
Working collaboratively with social workers, housing officers, healthcare professionals and other agencies involved in residents' support.
Encouraging residents to engage with appropriate health, housing and community services.
Treating every resident with dignity, respect and without discrimination.
About the People We Support
Our service supports vulnerable adults living in supported accommodation who may require assistance to maintain their tenancy, develop independent living skills and improve their overall wellbeing.
Residents may have different levels and types of support needs. Some may be working towards employment, independent housing or improved stability, while others may require ongoing support with daily living, mental health, social inclusion or accessing services.
The successful candidate will understand that every resident is an individual and will use a person-centred approach to provide support based on their circumstances, strengths and goals.
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this role, you will need:
Previous experience working as a Support Worker or in health and social care.
Experience supporting vulnerable adults.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer and IT skills.
The ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
An understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
A caring, reliable, patient and professional approach.
The ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
The right to work in the UK.
A valid DBS check, or willingness to undergo the required DBS check.
A National Insurance Number.
Relevant safeguarding training, including Safeguarding Adults and, where applicable to the service, Safeguarding Children.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
Previous experience in supported accommodation or supported housing.
Experience supporting people affected by homelessness.
Experience supporting people with mental health needs or learning disabilities.
Knowledge of housing and tenancy-related support.
Experience of risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.
Experience working with social services, healthcare providers, housing teams or other external professionals.
Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care or a related field.
