The role
As Consultant Psychiatrist within East Sussex CAMHS, you’ll provide specialist psychiatric expertise and clinical leadership from our Hailsham base.
- Provide high-quality specialist clinical assessments for children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties
- Undertake relevant psychiatric and physical investigations
- Work collaboratively with children, young people and their families to develop individually tailored treatment plans
- Deliver evidence-based care in line with NICE guidance
- Provide senior psychiatric expertise within a multidisciplinary CAMHS team
- Work alongside Consultants and Specialty Doctors across Sussex CHYPS
- Contribute to clinical governance and locality meetings
- Support collaborative and participatory approaches to care and service development
- Involve young people, carers and supporters in decision-making and planning
- Contribute to the continued development and transformation of accessible, needs-led CAMHS services
Who can apply
You’ll need:
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or eligibility within six months
- Approved Clinician status, or ability to achieve this within three months
- Good standing with the GMC
- Excellent specialist clinical knowledge
- Strong clinical skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and broad medical knowledge
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Ability to work within and lead teams
- A valid UK driving licence and willingness to use it for work, or evidence of a suitable alternative
Experience or expertise in:
- A broad range of specialist or sub-specialist experience relevant to CAMHS
- Teaching and training undergraduate or postgraduate learners
- Research or service evaluation
- Clinical audit and quality improvement
- Shared leadership and collaborative service improvement
- Using and critically appraising clinical evidence
- Working in a genuinely participatory way with children, young people and families
Develop, influence and lead
This is an established Consultant post within a supportive East Sussex CAMHS service, giving you the opportunity to combine specialist clinical practice with leadership, improvement and collaboration across the wider Sussex system.
You’ll work alongside nurses, psychologists, systemic family therapists, child psychotherapists, Consultants and Specialty Doctors, while also becoming part of the Trust-wide Consultant network.
You’ll have opportunities to connect with Consultant peers through regular locality divisional and clinical governance meetings, while contributing to the development of services that are increasingly dynamic, needs-led and accessible to children, young people and families.
