Overview

Join the Hearings Committee Secretary role at General Dental Council.

Location & Contract

London – Hybrid. 12‑month fixed term. Full‑time, 40 hours.

Pay

Base pay range (actual pay based on skills and experience).

Responsibilities

  • Sit as Committee Secretary in hearings, support procedural advice to Chair, members, legal adviser, parties, witnesses.
  • Summarise cases and prepare draft determinations reflecting decisions and reasons.
  • Resolve problems arising during a hearing and keep cases on track.
  • Ensure administrative procedures comply with GDC rules.
  • Decide on and arrange payment of fees due to Chair and members.
  • Examine legal information and evaluate case bundles before commencement.
  • Respond to enquiries and make decisions on behalf of Head of Hearings or deputy.

Qualifications

  • In‑depth knowledge and understanding of professional regulation, hearings and/or legal or adjudicatory processes.
  • Experience as a Committee/Panel Secretary drafting decisions, not just minutes.
  • Work well in a high‑pressure public hearing environment.
  • Proficient in determination writing under tight time constraints.
  • Well‑developed interpersonal skills for a formal public tribunal setting.
