A good secondary school in Peterborough is looking for an English Teacher to join its department.
They’re looking for someone who can teach English clearly and confidently while making sure students enjoy the subject and feel proud of the progress they make.
The Role
- Develop students’ reading, writing, grammar and communication skills.
- Teach students how to analyse literature and construct well-supported arguments.
- Support GCSE and A-Level students with examination preparation and extended writing.
- Introduce students to a broad range of literature and non-fiction.
- Use discussion, debate and creative writing to keep lessons varied.
- Encourage students to read more widely and develop their own interests.
- Support English clubs, reading activities and other enrichment opportunities.
- Build a calm and positive classroom where students feel confident contributing.
The Candidate
- We’re looking for someone with strong English subject knowledge who enjoys working with young people.
- A relevant degree and teaching qualification would be desirable, along with experience teaching English at secondary level.
- You should be able to support students who lack confidence while still providing enough challenge for students who are ready to take their writing and analysis further.
The Environment
You’ll be part of a supportive English department in a good secondary school. Staff are encouraged to share ideas and work together, with opportunities to get involved in activities outside the normal curriculum.
