Lifeskills is a well-established and respected safety education charity, supporting over 10,000 children, young people and vulnerable adults a year. We’re seeking an experienced safeguarding professional to join our Board and help ensure safeguarding remains at the heart of everything we do.

As a small charity, we rely on the expertise and commitment of our volunteer Directors to ensure we continue to provide the highest standards of support to the communities we serve. By joining our Board, you will play a key role in strengthening safeguarding across the organisation at a time when we are expanding our reach to support more vulnerable children, young people and adults.
Your strategic guidance will help ensure our safeguarding policies, procedures and culture remain robust, inclusive and fit for the future. This will enable Lifeskills to continue delivering engaging, high-quality safety education in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.
What are we looking for?
Person Specification
- A strategic thinker, able to contribute to Board decision-making and promote a strong safeguarding culture across the organisation.
- A commitment to Lifeskills and its aims.
- An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of charity trusteeship.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- The confidence to provide constructive challenge and independent advice on safeguarding matters.
- Willingness to provide occasional safeguarding advice and guidance to staff and volunteers as required.
Qualifications And Experience
- Significant professional safeguarding experience, ideally within education, children’s services, health, social care or the voluntary sector.
- A thorough understanding of current safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance and best practice relating to children and vulnerable adults.
- Experience of developing, implementing or reviewing safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Ability to provide strategic oversight of safeguarding arrangements and support continuous improvement.
- A collaborative team player who can work effectively with a small, committed Board and the Centre Manager.
- Previous Trustee or Board experience is desirable but not essential.

What will you be doing?
Our Board is made up of a small group of committed volunteer Directors with expertise across finance, education, business, HR and governance. As Lifeskills continues to grow and support over 10,000 visitors each year, we are seeing increasing demand for our programmes and are exploring new ways to reach more vulnerable children, young people and adults.
As we expand our reach, we want to ensure our safeguarding arrangements continue to reflect best practice and meet the needs of the diverse audiences we support. Our new Safeguarding Director will provide strategic oversight of safeguarding across the charity, acting as the Board’s safeguarding lead and offering advice to the Centre Manager and fellow Directors on safeguarding matters as required. They will help review safeguarding policies and procedures, provide constructive challenge, and ensure safeguarding remains central to our decision-making and future development.
